Ranjeeta: Upjas, could you share your background and childhood experiences? How do you think your upbringing has shaped the person you are today?”

Upjas: I grew up in Hubli, where my passion for baking began. Inspired by mouthwatering desserts on TV, I started experimenting in the kitchen. My mother, a chef, was a considerable influence, and I learned a lot from watching her bake.”

Ranjeeta: Upjas, your mother is a renowned baker. Did you find it natural to follow in her footsteps?

Upjas: My mother’s culinary skills were legendary, and I never had to lift a finger in the kitchen. However, when her catering business boomed during the 2020 lockdown, I stepped in to help with baking. The experience ignited my passion for it.

Ranjeeta: Upjas, could you share how your baking journey has evolved in the past year? What steps have you taken, and what have you discovered about yourself? Also, I’m interested in hearing about your experience at pastry school.

Upjas: Food has always been a passion of mine, and despite not having much kitchen experience, baking felt natural to me. Attending pastry school was a turning point, where I immersed myself in learning and discovered the enchantment of creating something magical every day.

Ranjeeta: Upjas, what did you do after completing pastry school? Can you share the steps you took afterward and the activities you were involved in?

Upjas: I worked at a cafe in Bangalore, but the hostile work environment and low salary took a toll on me. After returning home, I decided to pursue my mother’s dream of opening a cafe, and together, we started working towards that goal.

Ranjeeta: Upjas, your creations on Instagram are stunning. Can you tell us about your sources of inspiration and creative process when conceptualizing an order?

Upjas: I aim to exceed expectations and create a memorable experience when I receive an order. I love experimenting with flavors and creating unique combinations that surprise and delight my customers. Seeking honest feedback helps me continually improve and provide the best possible experience.

Ranjeeta: Behind the glamour of baking, what are some realities aspiring bakers should be aware of?

Upjas: Baking is physically and mentally demanding, and success doesn’t come overnight. It’s essential to be resilient and passionate about your craft despite the challenges you may face.

Ranjeeta: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the future?

Upjas: I’m focused on establishing and managing my own food business and excited about the journey ahead. While there may be uncertainties, I’m grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion.

Ranjeeta: How has your journey in baking transformed you as a person?

Upjas: Baking has made me more confident, independent, and disciplined. It’s been a journey of self-discovery and growth; I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
